CC & Scripting
This teaches you the core concepts of Sims 4 modding.
Sims 4 Editor Work in Progress
Section titled “Sims 4 Editor ”Sims 4 Editor currently doesn’t support CC or script modding, but likely will in the future. Until then, this page provides a few tips when getting started, with links to other great tutorials at the end.
If you want to use Sims 4 Editor, there is a full tuning tutorial available.
CC Creation
Section titled “CC Creation”While there’s a lot about CC creation that is specific to Sims 4, it’s important to understand that concepts like meshes, textures, shaders, normal maps, uv mapping, etc, are standard concepts used across game development and 3D graphics fields.
As such, you don’t need Sims 4 specific resources for learning this part of asset creation. If you want to make recolors/new textures, learn image editing with something like GIMP or Photoshop. If you want to make custom 3D objects, learn a modeling tool like Blender. You’ll find more resources if you don’t restrict your search to Sims 4.
SimsEdit also has a work in progress article about image types used by Sims 4.
Scripting
Section titled “Scripting”The game’s scripts are stored as compiled python files inside of several zip files. To access them, you need to unzip these folders, then decompile the files using a python 3.7 decompiler.
You can learn to do this using the Getting Started with Python Scripting tutorial by Andrew, maker of Sims 4 Studio. You may need to edit the scripts to point to your game’s install location. There are newer tutorials available, but this is the one I got stated with.
